26 Sep Why do people gain weight?
Sloth and gluttony, right? Many conventional doctors and media articles will tell you that you must be eating too much and not moving enough. These concepts may not be true in many cases. Have you noticed that businesses make money off you eating junk food? These businesses profit if you drink sodas and buy cookies, and you believe it’s OK, just don’t eat too much. But maybe it’s a little more complex than that. Many conditions and lifestyle factors lead to weight gain.
Low thyroid is one example. Of the many symptoms associated with hypothyroidism is weight gain that will not come off, even with extreme dieting.
Diabetes and insulin resistance: When your insulin levels are too high, expect your weight to be high.
Lack of sleep puts on the pounds. High stress stimulates cortisol, and that will increase your waist size.
Some medications, like steroids, lead to weight gain.
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), Celiac or gluten sensitivity, and other conditions are associated with overweight.
